Online Video Statistics for February 2012

Here are a few of the online video related statistics that caught our attention during February 2012:

comScore found that US Internet users watched nearly 40 billion videos, 12.2% of which were video ads, in January 2012. The average viewer watched 22.6 hours of online video content.

Via Ooyala, conversion rates for online video increased 10% from 39.9% to 43.9% during Q4 2011.

Case studies show that viewers have been 65-84% more likely to buy after watching a product video. Kissmetrics also highlighted that video now appears in 70% of the top 100 search results listings.

According to ReelSEO, campaigns across multiple screens – online video, mobile, and connected TV – had a 9x increase in brand recall.

Consumers chose to watch branded video 2.75 billion times in 2011 compared to 2 billion times in 2010, according to a Visible Measures report.

Cisco reported that mobile video accounted for 52% of mobile data traffic by the end of 2011, and it is expected to increase 25-fold to make up 70% of traffic by 2016.

Consumers find online video 38% more memorable than ads on traditional TV according to comScore’s “2012 U.S. Digital Future in Focus”.

Mobile video ad impressions rose from 2.7% of all online ads served in Q3 2011 to 4.9% in Q4 2011, according to BtoBonline.com.
